We had to opportunity to catch up with Miami Beach model May Kanan to shoot for the FASHIFY print magazine. In this photoshoot May is wearing the Disco Short (Navy) and Shiny Sash (Gold) both from AmericanApparel.

Where are you originally from? Your nationality?

I’m originally from Bangkok, Thailand.

What prompted your interests in becoming a model?

My husband thought i was a dummy for not modeling so i gave it a try and I’m having lots of fun doing it. I feel that i can be expressive and create some beautiful images.

What regions of the world to you do the majority of your fashion modeling work?

My fashion modeling works mainly have been created in Miami, although the photographers i had been working with were from many countries.

Have you done other types of modeling? Runway? Catalog? Parts?

I had a few casting jobs on a television show in United States and I was a promotional model for events in Thailand.

If you’ve done some mainstream fashion / advertising campaigns, which one did you have the most fun working on?

I’ve only had the opportunity in Thailand but I haven’t had the chance to do any in the United States as of yet but hopefully soon.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy the energy in front of the camera. Every time I have a photo shoot I always learn something new. I love when I see that smile from the photographer that says we got it!

What do you dislike the most?

This may sound funny, but I really dislike it when I run out of my wardrobe! Also, when there is no music playing at the shoot.

If you had to describe yourself as model in three words, which words would you choose? Why?

Determined, sophisticated and grateful. Determined to put all of my energy and creativity towards each particular shoot to achieve the best results possible. I try to achieve a sophisticated look so that people get the right idea of who i am plus I also try to add a little of my fun personality in there. Finally I’m grateful for every opportunity and believe that everything happens for a reason, so I always try my best. I also respect the photographer’s time and appreciate the chance to shoot.

Remind our readers how you came to learn about FASHIFY?

I found out about it through a very talented and creative photographer named Aristotle. As you can see from the photos. D

If you could have a superpower, or combination of many superpowers, which power(s) would you choose?

I wish I had the love and peace super touch power. Where i could touch any angry person and change they’re mind from angry to super happy and relaxed.

What are some of your future goals or ambitions?

My main goal is to definitely get a master degree MBA. I have new goals every 2 or 3 years, once I have achieved the targeted goal. What ever I do I always make sure that I don’t lose track of the goals I have aimed for.

Your favorite photographer? What’s his/her link? Why?

I have 2 favorite photographers. The first one is Aristotle, http://www.modelmayhem.com/1297599. He has his own style that I notice straightway and i love his use of natural lighting. His work is edgy, soft, strong, and sexy at the same time. I feel like we can create awesome photos any time we shoot. The second photographer is Lyall Aston, http://www.lyallastonphoto.com/. He can communicate with models very well. His work is just amazing. He brings the best out of any model.

Your favorite high-fashion model? What’s his/her link? Why?

Of course Kate Moss, she is THE model. Her poses always seem natural. She makes magazines look alive. I just love her gorgeous look.

Name an up-an-coming model who has potential, progress, or development that excites you?

Honestly, I don’t really have an up-an-coming model that excites me. I think every model has the potential to develop if she has the right look and attitude.
